IMO, UNDP DEEPEN PARTNERSHIP TO ADVANCE DIGITAL SKILLS, JOBS AND INNOVATION

Imo State Government has deepened its partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as both sides explore new opportunities to advance digital skills, innovation, job creation, and sustainable economic development across the state.

The UNDP delegation, during a visit to Imo State, engaged the state government in discussions on expanding access to digital opportunities, equipping young people with relevant skills, supporting technology-driven businesses, and strengthening the state’s digital economy.

The engagement reflects Governor Hope Uzodimma’s commitment to building a smarter, more digitally driven Imo State where technology and innovation serve as key tools for economic growth, employment creation, and improved opportunities for citizens.

At the centre of the discussions was the Imo Digital City, a flagship initiative of the state government designed to serve as a hub for digital learning, innovation, technology-driven businesses, and job creation.

Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, Hon. Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, welcomed the UNDP delegation and emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing the state’s digital transformation agenda.

“We are glad to host UNDP in Imo State. Partnerships like this strengthen our efforts to build a smarter Imo that can compete anywhere in the world. We are ready to work together to create more opportunities for our people,” Dr. Amadi said.

The discussions focused on key areas including expanding digital access, equipping young people with skills for emerging jobs, supporting digital entrepreneurs, promoting innovation, and creating an enabling environment for the growth of the digital economy in Imo State.

The UNDP delegation also expressed its willingness to support the state’s digital development efforts, noting the potential of collaboration with the Imo State Government to create meaningful opportunities for young people and strengthen innovation-driven development.

The engagement is being viewed as another significant step towards positioning Imo Digital City as a major platform for digital skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and employment generation.

At its core, the partnership is about connecting people with opportunities, strengthening the digital workforce, and creating an environment where young Imolites can acquire relevant skills, build businesses, and compete in the global digital economy.

The collaboration further reinforces the Imo State Government’s broader digital transformation agenda, which continues to focus on building a digitally skilled workforce, promoting innovation, and harnessing technology as a catalyst for sustainable economic development.
