The Imo State Government has taken a significant step in the modernisation of its educational services with the launch of an online platform that allows students and graduates to download their Basic Education Certificate Examination results, commonly known as BECE or Junior WAEC, as well as their Universal Basic Education Assessment Test certificates, referred to as UBEAT or FSLC, directly from the internet without visiting any government office.
The new digital platform, accessible through the Imo State Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's official portal at education.im.gov.ng, eliminates the bureaucratic bottlenecks that have historically plagued the process of obtaining these certificates in the state. For years, citizens seeking to retrieve their basic education credentials were compelled to navigate lengthy queues, travel to government offices, and endure extended waiting periods that often disrupted academic and professional pursuits. The newly introduced system is designed to render that experience obsolete.
To access the service, a user is required to visit the portal, select either the UBEAT or BECE option depending on the certificate sought, enter their examination year and examination number, confirm their candidate details, and make a processing payment of one thousand naira. Upon successful verification, the certificate becomes available for immediate download and can be printed on standard certificate paper. The entire process is designed to be completed within minutes, offering Imo indigenes anywhere in the world a convenient means of retrieving documents that are frequently required for further education, employment, and official documentation purposes.
For those who may have difficulty recalling their examination numbers, the platform includes a built-in retrieval feature. By selecting the option labelled "Don't Know Your Exam Number?" and providing the required identifying details, users can have their examination numbers retrieved instantly without the need for any physical follow-up at an examination board office.
A dedicated customer support line is also available to assist users who encounter any difficulties during the process. The support team is reachable via telephone and WhatsApp on 0808 095 4826 and operates around the clock, providing assistance with enquiries, complaints, and technical issues at any hour of the day. Additional help channels are also provided directly on the website for users who prefer digital communication.
The initiative has been welcomed as a concrete demonstration of the Imo State Government's commitment to integrating technology into the delivery of public services, particularly in the education sector. It reflects the broader digital transformation agenda being pursued under Governor Hope Uzodimma's administration, which has consistently prioritised the use of e-governance tools to improve efficiency, accessibility, and transparency across state institutions.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Governance, operating under the leadership of the Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Governance, has been identified as a key enabler in the realisation of this and similar technology-driven public service improvements. The HOPE Initiative, alongside the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, also played a collaborative role in bringing the platform to fruition.
Officials have urged citizens not to wait until an urgent need arises before taking advantage of the service. With the platform now operational, all Imo indigenes who sat for the BECE or UBEAT examinations are encouraged to retrieve and preserve digital copies of their certificates as part of responsible personal document management.
The launch stands as further evidence that Imo State is actively repositioning its public service architecture to meet the expectations of a digitally connected citizenry, reducing friction in access to essential government services and bringing educational administration closer to the people it is meant to serve.
